Ces ateliers ont été réalisés dans le cadre de l’édition 2021 du Festival EUROPALIA qui avait pour thème et titre TRAINS & TRACKS.

En 2020, la curatrice Caroline Dumalin m’a invitée à réaliser une installation in situ pour Endless Express, une exposition curatée par ses soins et faisant partie de l’édition 2021 de Europalia. 

Afin de répondre à cette commission, je suis allée à la rencontre de la ville de Seraing, là où les premiers trains et rails belges ont été construits.

J’ai fait la connaissance de l’A.M.O La Débrouille et nous avons décidé de collaborer ensemble afin de mettre en place un projet vidéo avec les jeunes qui participaient à ses activités.

J’ai alors fait la rencontre de Fatoumata, Sacha, Bamby, Djibril, Mathilde, Nour, Farah et Rodney, et nous avons commencé à parler, à dessiner, et à écrire un film ensemble. Pendant deux mois, nous nous sommes retrouvé.e.s autour d’ateliers de dessins et d’expressions corporelles, orales et musicales. Les ateliers se sont petit à petit organisés à partir de temps de discussions libres autour d’un sujet, de temps d’apprentissage du fonctionnement du matériel de captation, de temps d’improvisations orales, et de temps pour dessiner. 

Au fur et à mesure, nous avons mis en scène les dessins de chacun.e, et nous nous en sommes servis comme des partitions, des scénarios, à interpréter librement. Nous avons cherché à incarner ces histoires dans des espaces particuliers et dans les expériences, les corps, et les désirs de chacun.e.

Le scénario de Another Town, Another Train s’est construit à partir de ces échanges et de cette matière. 

These workshops were carried out as part of the 2021 edition of the EUROPALIA Festival, which had the theme and title TRAINS & TRACKS.

In 2021 the curator Caroline Dumalin invited me to create an in situ installation for Endless Express, an exhibition curated by her and part of the 2021 edition of Europalia.

In order to respond to this commission, I went to meet the town of Seraing, where the first Belgian trains and tracks were built.

I met the A.M.O La Débrouille and we decided to work together to set up a video project with the young people who participated in their activities.

I then met Fatoumata, Sacha, Bamby, Djibril, Mathilde, Nour, Farah and Rodney, and we started talking, drawing, and writing a film together.

For two months we met around drawing workshops and bodily, oral and musical expression. The workshops were organised around moments of free discussions based on a specific subject, times to learn how to use the film equipment, moments for live improvisations, and time for drawing.

Gradually, we staged the drawings of each and everyone, and we used them as scores, scenarios, to be interpreted freely. We sought to embody these stories in particular spaces and in each person's bodies, experiences, and desires. The Another Town, Another Train screenplay was built from this experience and material.
